Taieri Schools Sports Association

The Taieri Schools Sports Association is made up by Elmgrove, Silverstream and East Taieri Schools.

Children in years 4-6 are given the opportunity to compete in a variety of events in sports they might not usually participate in and for some the chance to attend Otago Primary School Championship events.

The TSSA meets for the following events:

Swimming

Swimming champs are held in Term 1 for those children who can swim two lengths of the Mosgiel pool without stopping and can meet a qualifying standard.  This event is co-ordinated by East Taieri School.

Orienteering

Orienteering is held every even year and is run in Term 2.

Year 4 children compete at Mosgiel Park in a time challenge event.

Year 5 and 6 children compete in a time challenge event at the Dunedin Botanical Gardens. This event is co-ordinated by Silverstream School.

Duathlon

Duathlon is held every odd year in Term 2.

Children are given the opportunity to compete individually or in teams of 3 around a course at Memorial Park. The duathlon consists of a run, bike and sprint.

This event is co-ordinated by Silverstream School.

Cross Country

Cross country is held in Term 3 across both Memorial Park and Peter Johnstone Park.

Year 4 children compete in a 1.5km event.

Year 5 and 6 children compete in a 2km event.

The top 10 runners in Year 5-6 across the TSSA schools qualify for the Otago Championship Cross Country.  This event is co-ordinated by Elmgrove School.

Athletics

Athletics is held in Term 4 at Memorial Park.

Children who meet qualifying standards at our school athletics event participate in this.  Children who compete well at this by meeting qualifying standards will then go on to participate in the Otago Champs Athletics event.
